The Soft Life God's Way: How to Rest Without the Guilt
What Is the Soft Life, Really?
Let's clear something up right away – living a "soft life" isn't about being lazy!
It's actually about being intentional with your time and energy.
Think of it as choosing peace over pressure and purpose over endless productivity. It's giving yourself permission to breathe when everything around you says "hurry up!"
I started exploring this concept when I found myself constantly exhausted, always running to the next thing on my to-do list. Maybe you've felt that way too?
Why We're All So Tired
Everywhere we look, someone's telling us to work harder and do more. Social media shows us people who seem to have it all together – the perfect job, family, home, and somehow they still have time for 5AM workouts!
For women especially, the pressure can be overwhelming. We're supposed to excel in every role while making it look effortless. No wonder we're tired!
The truth? This constant rushing leaves us feeling empty inside. We check everything off our lists but still feel like something's missing.
Living Softly With God
What if we let God set the pace instead?
Jesus himself took breaks! He stepped away from crowds to pray and rest. Remember when He said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest"? He meant it!
Living softly with God means:
- Slowing down enough to hear His voice
- Embracing rest as spiritual practice
- Trusting His timing instead of rushing ahead
Simple Ways to Start Your Soft Life
1. Make Room for Stillness
Even 5-10 minutes of quiet time in the morning can change your whole day. Just you, your Bible, and a listening heart.
I keep a journal by my bed to jot down thoughts that come during these quiet moments – it's amazing what you hear when you finally slow down!
2. Simplify What You Can
Look around your life – what's causing stress that could be eliminated? Maybe it's physical clutter in your home or too many commitments on your calendar.
When I cleared out my closet last month, I felt like I could breathe easier. Less stuff = less stress!
3. Set Kind Boundaries
Protecting your peace isn't selfish – it's necessary!
Practice phrases like:
- "I'd love to help, but I can't commit right now"
- "I need some quiet time to recharge"
The first time I turned down a committee request at church, I felt guilty. Now I see it was actually honoring God by not overextending myself.
4. Nourish Your Whole Self
Your body is God's temple! That means:
- Eating foods that give you energy
- Getting enough sleep (I'm still working on this one!)
- Moving your body in ways that bring joy
5. Work With Your Natural Rhythms
I'm most creative in the mornings but best with people in the afternoons. When I plan my day around these patterns instead of fighting them, everything flows better.

Taking Your First Soft Steps
You don't need to overhaul your entire life today. Start small:
- Set a daily reminder for 5 minutes of prayer
- Identify one area to simplify this week
- Practice saying "no" to something that drains you
A Simple Prayer
Lord, help me slow down enough to hear You. When life gets overwhelming, remind me that my worth comes from being Your child, not from checking off tasks. Show me how to find joy in simplicity today. Amen.
The Power of Living Soft
Here's what surprised me most: living softly hasn't made my life smaller – it's made it richer! I'm more present with my family. More effective in my work. More connected to God.
Living softly isn't weakness – it's strength rooted in knowing whose you are.
Your Turn Now
What would your life look like if you trusted that God's pace is better than your rush?
Just give it a try! Start with one small change this week and watch what happens in your life. The little shifts often create the biggest difference. And please come back and let me know how it goes – I'd love to hear your soft life journey stories!
